Not all fat is created equal. The fats found in foods like avocados, nuts and dark chocolate are actually good for you — and they taste delicious! Enjoy them on a regular basis to reap their health benefits but don’t go overboard because they are calorie dense.
Our bodies are incredibly adaptive to what you put into it – when you overload it with fats and take away carbohydrates, it will begin to burn ketones as the primary energy source. Optimal ketone levels offer many health, weight loss, physical and mental performance benefits.
Agree with this so much.  I can get hardcore for a while, but if my mentality is too hardcore, then I beat myself up too much for my failures and don’t start again.  I have had to learn to be a little easier on myself and forgive myself for mistakes.  Hardcore is no good if it means a single slip up = failure.
Like playing a video game, you need to determine what level of difficulty you’re up for.  Sure playing on Difficult gives you less room for error, but it also hones your skills far more quickly and produces more impressive results.  Or maybe you’re cool with playing on easy, because you don’t have to be as neurotic and can have more fun with it.
There are mixed and matched studies on keto and breastfeeding, though nothing is well researched at the current moment. Right now it’s understood that ketogenic diets are typically healthy to do while breastfeeding.
If you’re preparing to go on a diet, your goal is probably a no-brainer: weight loss. However, take time to contemplate the effect of losing some of your excess weight. Will it change the way you think of yourself or the way you act? Imagine the end result and then break your overarching goals into specific short-term goals. These smaller weekly goals will act as stepping stones to keep you on track and motivated when all you want to do is dive head first into a bowl of ice cream.
So what IS making us fat?  Simple, refined, and/or processed carbohydrates!  Rather than spend thirty minutes typing it out, I’d recommend instead that you spend three  minutes to watch this video to show WHY excessive carbohydrate consumption can make you fat:
There are a lot of misconceptions about low carb dieting which has caused an infamous outlook on keto. There have been tons of studies published over the last 30 years that show how high amounts of fat and few carbs are beneficial.
Eat every three hours – Passing on breakfast will send your body into starvation mode, meaning your body starts to store everything you’ve eaten as fat, and you’re midsection is the first to suffer the consequences
Don’t skip meals. Eating a healthy breakfast increases your resting metabolic rate earlier in the day, keeps your energy levels high, and may help you resist the urge of high-calorie snacks throughout the day. Plan to eat a small snack or meal every two to four hours to keep your metabolism active. Eating regularly also keeps your blood sugar stable and reduces unhealthy calorie binges or deviations from your meal plan.
“Stepping on the scale frequently makes you aware of small changes and helps you quickly react to those changes. The National Weight Control Registry, a large group of people who have successfully lost at least 30 pounds and kept it off for 5 years, found that successful ‘losers’ weigh themselves often and make adjustments accordingly. When you begin to understand that sodium, carb intake, hormones and alcohol intake can impact weight and that it isn’t possible to gain 2 pounds of fat overnight, you will begin to better understand your body. The key is to pay attention to overall trends; don’t obsess over day-to-day numbers! — Jennifer McDaniel, MS, RDN, CSSD, LD, food and nutrition expert
***If you’re a vegetarian or vegan, then this is the path that I’d recommend for you – cut back on grains and crappy carbs, load up on vegetables, nuts, beans, fruits, and some low-glycemic grains if you’re running low on calories, and make sure you’re getting enough protein!
But if you’ve ever tried losing weight, getting in shape or simply leading a healthier lifestyle, you know that it’s not as easy as just changing your diet and squeezing in more workouts. That’s why I’ve rounded up my favorite 49 ways to help you get healthy and fit.
“If weight loss is the goal, I recommend learning how to properly deadlift. Deadlifting recruits more muscle fiber at once than any other exercise. More muscle working equates to more blood flow, an increased heart rate, more metabolic demand and output. It’s compound, multi-joint and more bang for your buck, not to mention you’ll develop an excellent posterior from them.” — Victoria Viola, PN Certified Nutrition Coach, NSCA CPT, Co-Founder, Excelerate Wellness, LLC

The standard american diet has over 300g of carbs per day. To cut body fat fast, eat 100-150g carbs per day, and make sure you stay away from junk foods and choose unprocessed foods. This will allow your body to tap into your fat storage for energy.
No matter what type of healthy eating diet you choose, be it counting calories, vegetarian, vegan, glycemic load, or paleo diet, you are going to have the most success with the one that you can actually stick with.
“Whether it’s an app or paper food logs, tracking what you eat will certainly be eye-opening. Almost everyone consumes more than they think. Write everything down as soon as you’re done eating so you don’t forget anything. The simple act of recording what you eat will make you eat less. When the calories are in your face, it makes you think twice!” — Martha McKittrick, RD, CDE
If you are just eating better because somebody told you to or because you think you should (but don’t really have a real reason)…every day that you deprive yourself of your favorite foods will seem like torture – you’re going to fail miserably.
“A study by David Jenkins, MD, PhD—the University of Toronto pioneer in low-glycemic eating — demonstrates that eating small portions at frequent intervals is good for your health in a number of remarkable ways. Within the study, they found that people who ate every three hours reduced their blood cholesterol by over 15% and their blood insulin by almost 28%. That’s key, because in addition to regulating your blood sugar level, insulin plays a pivotal role in fat metabolism, inflammation and the progression to metabolic syndrome. When your body produces less insulin, you’re much less likely to convert dietary calories into body fat.
After increasing water intake and replacing electrolytes, it should relieve most all symptoms of Keto Flu. For an average person that is starting a ketogenic diet, eating 20-30g of net carbs a day, the entire adaptation process will take about 4-5 days. My advice is to cut your carbs to fewer than 15g to ensure that you are well on your way into ketosis within one week. If you are experiencing any more keto flu symptoms, double check your electrolyte intake and adjust.
yes, indeed, high fat low carb diet is the most effective way of losing weight. It’s carbohydrates not dietary fats that prevent your body by stimulating high insulin secretion from using fatty acids in the adipose tissue as a source of fuel. That means that by eating too many refined carbs you won’t be able to lose any weight at all. Therefore, cutting those carbs (sugar, white flour, potatos, white rice, etc) will do the miracle: you will curb your appetite and make your body use its internal sources of fuel (fat) instead of external (glucose). You can eat all kinds of fat rich foods along with proteins. But stay away from only trans fats (for example, margarine).
You’re transitioning. Your body is equipped to process a high intake of carbs and a lower intake of fat. Your body needs to create enzymes to be able to do this. In the transitional period, the brain may run low on energy which can lead to grogginess, nausea, and headaches. If you’re having a large problem with this, you can choose to reduce carb intake gradually.

You know what real food is: things that grew in the ground, on a tree, came out of the sea, ran on the land, or flew through the air.  Meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits, nuts are all great examples of REAL food.
Drinking water instead of soda, coffee, alcohol, juice, or milk may help you cut hundreds of calories per day. Increasing your water intake can also help your body efficiently use nutrients, keep you energized, get the most benefit from your exercise routine, and feel full longer.
Believe me, this really works! Because the same serving of food looks like less food on larger plates, trick your brain into eating less by serving your main dish on salad-sized plates instead of dinner ones. (8)

It’s almost impossible to keep up with all the different diets that come in and out of the spotlight each month, and with the emergence of numerous Instagram and YouTube healthy eating ‘gurus’, it can be hard to distinguish between informed nutritional advice and fad diets. Here are six questions you should ask before embarking on any weight loss plan to help you determine if it will be effective and, most importantly, safe for you…
A quick note: if you are used to eating 4,000 calories a day, switching to 2,000 per day will probably make you want to gnaw your arm off – instead, slowly decrease your calorie intake by a few hundred calories each week.
“There’s an app for that” couldn’t be truer than when it comes to fitness, such as the great fitness trackers available now. Whether you’re trying to keep track of what you’re eating, need a need workout or just want to log how many miles you’re running, there’s an app for you.
Unfortunately, this method also produces the least optimal healthy results in my opinion and is the easiest to abandon (eating only HALF of something deliciously unhealthy is tougher than not eating it at all, in my opinion!) but it’s a great place for a newbie to start taking control of his/her eating.
However, it’s a huge step in the right direction towards healthy eating, and you’ll generally have more success with losing the right kind of weight when combined with strength training – burning fat and keeping the muscle you have.
There is nobody else like you, so your nutritional requirements are also unique. This is where a nutritional counsellor can help you create healthier habits and tasty alternatives that will fit your lifestyle.
This is one of the hardest questions to answer. Looking into the background and qualifications of the person behind the diet might give you some indication of its legitimacy, but sometimes the answer isn’t that simple. As Kerry points out, “Even plans developed by trained medical practitioners are not without their critics – Atkins for example was formulated by an American Cardiologist, yet it recieved a huge amount of criticism, and still does. If you want guidance and reassurance that you’re following a well-balanced diet you should seek the help of a registered dietitian.”
“Certain over-the-counter medications, like antacids or NSAIDs (such as Advil) can disrupt your gut bacteria just the way antibiotics can. That can lead to inflammation and, over time, weight gain.” — Tasneem Bhatia, MD, author of  The 21-Day Belly Fix
Nenad Aksic/ShutterstockAim to get at least seven hours of sleep each night. Try going to bed and waking up at the same time each day. Get these seven tips for the best sleep ever! Why? Ever notice how you start to crave donuts and drive-thru breakfasts when you’re exhausted? When you don’t get enough sleep, your hormones are thrown out of balance. Running on no sleep can actually drive up the hormones that make you want to eat, while pushing down the hormones that signal for fullness—and that’s a recipe for weight gain. When you’re well-rested, it’s much easier to make healthy decisions and stay on track.
Remember that you’ve actually sort of done the hard part (going to the gym with your kit) but you don’t want to get over that last hurdle, and why would you? It’s not something that gives you pleasure, and when it comes to it, no amount of pain avoidance is going to get over that hurdle in the long term. The key, as I said in my last reply, is to find a mode of exercise that you enjoy, purely for its own benefit. The health and fitness benefits are then side benefits, not the main reason for doing it.
Keto is a diuretic. You tend to go to the bathroom more to urinate, which attributes to a loss of both electrolytes and water in your body. You can usually help combat this by either drinking bouillon cube or Powerade Zero and by increasing your water intake. Mainly, you want to replenish your depleted electrolytes.

Supplements are not a substitute for a good diet. Although many health experts recommend taking a multivitamin and mineral supplement that provides 100 to 200 percent of your recommended daily value, each and every supplement should be carefully evaluated for purity and safety. Specific supplements have been associated with toxicity, reactions with medications, competition with other nutrients, and even increased risk of diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.
A: The amount of weight you lose is entirely dependent on you. Obviously adding exercise to your regimen will speed up your weight loss. Cutting out things that are common “stall” causes is also a good thing. Artificial sweeteners, dairy, wheat products and by-products (wheat gluten, wheat flours, and anything with an identifiable wheat product in it).
