Skip over crash weight-loss plans that promise you’ll drop obscene amounts of weight in a short period of time and research options that provide long-term results and are medically backed. In a previous article, we researched some of the best diets, which included the Mayo Clinic Diet and Whole30. Choose a plan that suits your lifestyle or the lifestyle you want to lead. In some cases, like with Weight Watchers, the diet may be an ongoing tool you use to maintain your figure after the initial weight has been lost.

Eating clean doesn’t mean you have to give up your favorite foods. Instead, think of ways to “healthify” them yourself! Is dip your weakness? Try this spicy bean dip. Are Fridays your pizza night? It depends on your diet. If you are eating more calories than needed a day, then you probably will not lose weight. If you are eating the right amount of calories for your weight and amount of exercise you will lose weight. Walking will give you better results though. You actually burn more calories doing an energized walk than a run.

Shoot for five servings of vegetables a day — raw, steamed, or stir-fried. You can eat twice as much pasta salad loaded with veggies like broccoli, carrots, and tomatoes for the same calories as a pasta salad sporting just mayonnaise. Same goes for stir-fries, omelets, and other veggie-friendly dishes. If you eat a 1:1 ratio of grains to veggies, the high-fiber veggies will help satisfy your hunger before you overeat the grains. Bonus: Fiber is highly beneficial for preventing constipation, which can make you look bloated. Find out if your diet doesn’t have enough fiber.
Start small – Commit to five minutes of exercise a day. Five minutes of push ups, pull ups, and/or squats. That’s it! No matter what happens, every day, you need to do 5 minutes of exercise. You’ll quickly learn that getting started is the hardest part – once you finish your five minutes it’ll be easy to keep going.

Avoid tempting grocery aisles. Avoid the areas in the grocery store that stock sodas, cookies, ice cream, pizzas, and other fattening and highly processed foods, so that you are less likely to purchase unhealthy options. If you can’t see them, you can’t be tempted by them.

Cases of people being newly diagnosed with diabetes is on the rise. Because of this many people are often misinformed about what it means to have diabetes (type 1 and type 2) and how you should be eating. Before you begin any crazy ‘diabetic’ diet, it’s important to take a step back and learn as much as you can about your eating habits. Don’t think just because you have diabetes you have to stop eating your favorite foods, this is as far from the truth as it can get.

If you eat your dinner restaurant style on your plate rather than family style, helping yourself from bowls and platters on the table, you’ll lose weight. Most of us tend to eat an average of 150 percent more calories in the evening than in the morning. Before you eat something, drink some water and ask yourself if you’re truly hungry, go on a quick walk outside or around the office or just wait 20 minutes or so before eating. You’ll be amazed at how often your body isn’t actually hungry; it’s actually craving movement.
You want to keep your carbohydrates limited, coming mostly from vegetables, nuts, and dairy. Don’t eat any refined carbohydrates such as wheat (bread, pasta, cereals), starch (potatoes, beans, legumes) or fruit. The small exceptions to this are avocado, star fruit, and berries which can be consumed in moderation.

Remember that you’ve actually sort of done the hard part (going to the gym with your kit) but you don’t want to get over that last hurdle, and why would you? It’s not something that gives you pleasure, and when it comes to it, no amount of pain avoidance is going to get over that hurdle in the long term. The key, as I said in my last reply, is to find a mode of exercise that you enjoy, purely for its own benefit. The health and fitness benefits are then side benefits, not the main reason for doing it.
